About Us

What is BGAM?

BGAM was set up in 1987 with the purpose of bringing together Malaysian graduates from British educational institutions.
Serving as the umbrella body of all British graduates in Malaysia, BGAM aims to promote fellowship amongst graduates by playing the role of a friendly ambassador between Malaysia and Britain.

BGAM is a voluntary and non-profit organisation. The Management Committee has organised different activities to cater for different members’ interest as well as to promote the Association to new members. Social activities such as sports carnivals, fellowship dinners, golf tournaments, hi-tea gatherings and treasure hunts are continually being organised. BGAM has also held events such as talks by various professionals, debates with other Alumnus, participated in Education Exhibitions and a Poetry Evening. Over the last two years BGAM members have been more actively involved in events for the benefit of the less fortunate.

BGAM’s greatest challenge came with the election of YABhg. Tun Mohamed Hanif Omar as President at our 3rd AGM on 20th June 1991 – the challenge was to have a permanent address for the Association. Our President and Deputy President, Y Bhg. Dato’ Dr Low Bin Tick led BGAM through the fund raising dinners and other activities to achieve this goal.

This saw the realisation of our own “British Graduates Building” – a 3-storey shophouse in Taman Sungai Besi Indah, which is next to the Mines Resort and Golf Club. BGAM, which had previously been operating from many temporary locations, has now found a permanent home.

This move has allowed us to serve our members better especially the British Universities Alumni in Malaysia. We have established the BGAM Secretarial Service whose main purpose is to provide a ‘permanent home’ and support services to British Alumnus in Malaysia. With this service we hope that each British Alumni can be kept active even with changes in the committee. If you are interested in knowing more about this service, please email to bgamfb@gmail.com for more information. Our rates are very attractive compared to commercial secretarial services.

With DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan Sultan Azlan Shah as our patron and the full support of the British High Commission and the British Council, we hope to be able to encourage all the estimated number 150,000 British graduates to join us as the ‘rightful members’.
