About Us

What is BGAM?

BGAM was set up in 1987 with the purpose of bringing together Malaysian graduates from UK (British) educational institutions. Serving as the umbrella body of all UK (British) graduates in Malaysia, BGAM aims to promote fellowship amongst graduates by playing the role of a friendly ambassador between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

BGAM is a voluntary and non-profit organisation. The Management Committee has organised different activities to cater for different members’ interest as well as to promote the Association to new members. Social activities such as sports carnivals, fellowship dinners, golf tournaments, hi-tea gatherings and treasure hunts are continually being organised. BGAM has also held events such as Talks (offline & online) by various professionals, Debates with other Alumnus, participated in Education Exhibitions, Poetry Recital Evening and social events for the benefit of the less fortunate.

In the earlier years of growth, BGAM went through a series of challenges.  Beginning from the tenure of the 4th President, YABhg. Tun Mohamed Hanif Omar (1991-2009), BGAM raised funds to purchase its own home, a 3-storey shoplot, now located at Taman Sungei Besi Indah and the project continued under the stewardship of the Immediate Past President, YBhg. Dato’ Dr Low Bin Tick too.

This move has allowed us to serve our members better especially the UK (British) Universities Alumni in Malaysia. We have established the BGAM Secretarial Service whose main purpose is to provide a ‘permanent home’ and support services to British Alumnus in Malaysia. With this service we hope that each UK (British) Alumni can be kept active even with changes in the committee. If you are interested in knowing more about this service, please email to bgamfb@gmail.com for more information. Our rates are very attractive compared to commercial secretarial services.

With the completion of the home project, YBhg Dato’ Dr Low initiated an BGAM Education Foundation Fund to assist those in need in the area of education.   This is on-going.

Our Royal Patron is His Royal Highness, Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah.  Coupled with the full support of the UK (British) High Commission in Malaysia and the British Council, we hope to be able to encourage all the estimated number 500,000 UK (British) graduates to join us as members.
